Dear Parents, Carers, and community members.
It has been a busy two weeks here at Pia Wadjarri School. Staff have finished all student testing in preparation for the reports that will be issued at the end of term, and we have been participating in lots of two-way science work.
Over the last few weeks Mr Bradley has been working tirelessly in the junior classroom creating a makeover of resources and classroom set up. The students have put in their orders for new play equipment, and when it arrives, we will share the end result with our families.
The WA government and DOE has recently made an announcement that all restrictions regarding requirements for visitors or workers to schools to be vaccinated. These new arrangements will be in place from June 10th 2022. All restrictions for Remote Aboriginal communities will be lifted on June 15th 2022.
With the change in seasons coming upon us so suddenly here in Pia, we have been taking advantage of the cool mornings to take some mindful walks around our community.
It has been lovely to see an increase in school attendance for our senior class, and they have been observed participating in some great recess basketball games!
Please keep up the great work in getting our students to school every day. A reminder to families that there is a breakfast club run each morning at the school, and all students are welcome to come and get something to eat from 8 am each day.
Our weekly cuppa catchup sessions have been well patronised, and it is lovely to see our families popping into school to see what our kids have been up to. Remember, every Wednesday at 10:30 am, families are welcome to come down to school and have morning tea with our students and the staff.
Congratulations to our week 5 Award recipients - Jahlael Bullen, Rihanna Schwarze, Brontë Barbuto and Domenic Barbuto. Great work!!
Have a great week everyone and try and keep warm on these very chilly nights!

Recently students and staff visited the Murchison Shire Museum and Wooleen Station as part of their On Country lessons.
While at the Murchison Shire museum, we learned how tough the early white settlers had it in the stations. The students were amazed at how people used to communicate- it seems the farmers didn't get phones out in the district until 1984. We wondered what people did before TV's and Netflix??
At Wooleen Station we got a tour of the main house and then devoured a delicious morning tea provided by David and Francis. David talked to students about the history of Woollen Station and how things have changed over the last 100 years.Miss Kylie then took us for a walk and showed us where some Pia families had grown up in the station. The students were amazed at how simple life used to be when their Nannas and Pops’ were young!
After visiting Wooleen station we wandered down to Wooleen Lake. We learned that thousands of black swans breed there! We had always thought that black swans only lived on the Swan River! The students got to taste some salty bush tucker and play with the cattle dogs.
On the long drive back to Pia Miss Kylie helped us find some bush tucker amongst the bush. The bean type fruit was delicious and refreshing! Our students also managed to find some Sweet Kangaroo grass to nibble on. What an amazing adventure we had in Country!! Thankyou to Miss Kylie and Mr Brad for a wonderful day.
