On Country Excursion
Recently students and staff visited the Murchison Shire Museum and Wooleen Station as part of their On Country lessons.
While at the Murchison Shire museum, we learned how tough the early white settlers had it in the stations. The students were amazed at how people used to communicate- it seems the farmers didn't get phones out in the district until 1984. We wondered what people did before TV's and Netflix??

At Wooleen Station we got a tour of the main house and then devoured a delicious morning tea provided by David and Francis. David talked to students about the history of Woollen Station and how things have changed over the last 100 years.Miss Kylie then took us for a walk and showed us where some Pia families had grown up in the station. The students were amazed at how simple life used to be when their Nannas and Pops’ were young!

After visiting Wooleen station we wandered down to Wooleen Lake. We learned that thousands of black swans breed there! We had always thought that black swans only lived on the Swan River! The students got to taste some salty bush tucker and play with the cattle dogs.

On the long drive back to Pia Miss Kylie helped us find some bush tucker amongst the bush. The bean type fruit was delicious and refreshing! Our students also managed to find some Sweet Kangaroo grass to nibble on. What an amazing adventure we had in Country!! Thankyou to Miss Kylie and Mr Brad for a wonderful day.
