Dear Parents, carers and students,
we have had another couple of very busy weeks here at school.
Unfortunately, Covid and illness continues to impact our school, community, and staff here in Pia. People are gradually returning after falling victim to the Covid lurgy, and visitors, community programmes and school are slowly re-establishing their regular activities.
With both regular teachers being away, Mr Bradley and Miss Lulu have done an amazing job supporting the Principal to keep regular class programmes running. Miss Lulu has been working with Miss Susan to do daily reading, fitness and Mindfulness.
Miss Melissa has been working alongside Mr Bradley and they have managed to assess all students on our Top Ten maths and Letters and Sounds programme, so that staff can review our school plans.
Mr Bradley has been working with all the students to do some amazing Maths lessons using the Top Ten Maths programmes. Students are loving having 'fun' during their maths classes, and eagerly look forward to new games and activities during every session.
Today we have had visiting Tennis coaches come to our school and work with all students completing tennis coaching. It was definitely a big hit by all!
Miss Kylie has been working with community members to look at our whole school Two Way Science planning. So far they have looked at the seasons, animals, plants and waterholes that exist around Pia. Elders have decided what they would like to be taught during our on-country events, and Miss Kylie is going to work with teachers to link the Science curriculum to the two way science programme she will facilitate with teachers and students.
Student behaviour and in-class work habits in our school has been outstanding of late. The Principal's prize box has taken a big hit over the last few weeks. It has been such a pleasure to see some great work in classes, and in the playground our students have consistently demonstrated care and respect for each other and toward staff.
As the weather is cooling now that we are entering into the cooler months, the buzz about the school is one of great positivity. Maybe it is the Autumn sunsets or cool evenings - but I really think it is the wonderful and engaging learning that has been happening across the school!
Have a great week, and don't forget to vote on Saturday 21st May.

Deputy CEO, Murchison Shire visit
Mr Steven Cosgrove recently attended our community to meet with school staff and community members. Our senior girls and our school Cultural Adviser Ms Kylie Simpson took Steven on a tour of our school and community to meet with students and local residents. Our High School girls then prepared a lovely morning tea for our guests. Steven and community members sat and chatted for some time, enjoying the catch up about what has been happening in and around Pia community during the Covid pandemic and our recent community floods.
During his visit, Steven presented our secondary students wiht some Reconciliation Day T-Shirts to acknowledge the National Reconciliation Day that occurs annually on 26 May.
Pia Wadjarri students have been working with Geologists from Curtin University in Perth. Today our Senior students took us on a walk out of community to collect some rock samples to send off to our Geologist friends in Curtin. They will be dissected and analysed to see how old the rocks out here are.
The new uniform has arrived and looks fabulous. For purchasing, see Ms Susan for sizes required and make payment via direct debit to the school. Bank details:
