Welcome back to term 2 students, families and carers of Pia Wadjarri.
We have experienced some interesting times over the last few months, and come through the other end intact!
Toward the end of last term we experienced our first contact with COVID19 in the community, and the ensuing lockdown as a result. It was quickly followed by extreme weather conditions and we were locked down in community for a further 15 days due to flooding. With low food supplies causing angst among our community members, our friends in DFES kindly facilitated a huge food drop so that all community members could comfortably bunker in their homes until the COVID19 and flooding conditions had passed. Thank you to Kylie Simpson, who facilitated the community response to the COVID19 Lockdown in Pia.
We were extremely lucky, with the floods and COVID19 risks reducing enough so that all families were able to leave community over the Easter break to meet up with their friends and family.
As the Easter Bunny had not been able to get through the flood conditions and enter our community during COVID19 Lockdown, he kindly did a late visit and our students finally managed to have an Easter egg hunt when they first returned to Pia for term 2- it was a very welcome surprise by all! Mr Bradley took full advantage of this highly motivating event and turned it into a great maths lesson. All the chocolates found were counted, grouped and shared equally. So much fun was had by all the students.
Now that term 2 has commenced, children, staff and families are gradually returning to community so that we are beginning to re-establish our normal routines of school. We welcome back Nancy who has returned to Pia and re-enrolled in school.
Both our teachers have been away for extended periods of time, and a huge thanks needs to be extended to Miss Lulu and Mr Bradley for doing an amazing job supporting students to ensure regular learning programmes have been maintained in classrooms over the last 8 weeks. Some fabulous activities have been happening in the junior room, and I am so pleased to have observed the implementation of the Top Ten Maths in full swing. The engagement of students and the learning outcomes being achieved have been very impressive.
With the lifting of many of the COVID19 restrictions this term, we are hoping to be able to participate in a lot more off- site experiences, and have visitors come on school site to provide a variety of educational activities.
We have a whole school camp planned for the end of this term in Perth- watch this space for further details!
The redevelopment of our Home Ec. Room into the Wadjarri room is continuing. We have recently placed orders for new mats and are currently investigating IT upgrades for the learning area.
As we move into week 3 of term 2 we are hoping that things continue to settle back into a comfortable hum drum of normality, and we can now refocus on our school’s core business of teaching and learning. Have a great week everyone.
