Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Community Members.
We have had another busy week here in Pia Wadjarri RCS.
On Wednesday the Department of Health came and conducted their third lot of Pfizer vaccinations. There has been an amazing response from the Pia community, with all those in community taking up the opportunity to be vaccinated by the visiting vaccination team. Here at the school we have all staff double vaccinated and most of our students over 12 being double vaccinated against Covid-19. This result will ensure that there will be no interruptions to school being ready to commence in 2022, due to non- vaccinated staff being unable to commence at the school in 2021.
A big call out to wish Nancy Hawkins and Kyanne Simpson Happy Birthday, who both turned 5 on Thursday. Our fabulous Miss Melissa kindly created two fabulous birthday cakes, and the whole school got to share in the big day celebrations.
TLG (Teach Learn Grow) team will be arriving in community on Saturday afternoon. They will work with all the students in the school from Kindy to year 9 over the next week. Their focus is to help our students improve their maths skills and to further develop strategies on how to maintain their emotional well -being.
Teachers have been working hard on completing the student end of year reports. They will be available for distribution to families at our end of year Assembly and Christmas morning tea on Wednesday 15th December at 11 am (KEEP THE DATE!).
In our staff meetings we have been working on the School Improvement Plan for 2022. We are planning to include a lot more On Country Learning experiences to be led by our community Elder Lenny Merry, along with our AIEO’s Mr Bradley and Miss Kylie. Additionally, there is going to be a greater focus on the explicit teaching of Maths and English in 2022 so that our students here in Pia can continue to optimise their learning outcomes in these learning areas.
School Uniforms:
The School Council have been working to create a new look student uniform for 2022. The final design for the shirt has been agreed upon, and we are just deciding on the final design for the windcheater.
The school is unable to fund the total cost of all uniforms in 2022. However, Kylie Simpson has informed us that parents can apply for funding of their children’s uniforms through ‘The Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation’. Kylie has agreed to be the contact person here at the school for parents to come and get help to apply to the Corporation for purchase of the uniform items required by their child/ren. A price list will go out to families within the next week, and then if you require assistance to apply for the funding, please feel welcome to come and see Kylie here at school- where she will assist you to apply on line, direct to the WYAC.
Murchison Shire Christmas Party
Just a reminder that the Murchison Shire Christmas Party is to be held on Saturday 18th December 2022 at 5 pm at the Shire Recreation Hall. I have put forward the names and ages of all children whom I think may still be in community at that time, so that when they attend the party they will receive a gift from Santa.
Have a great week everyone- only 3 weeks of school to go, before the Christmas vacation commences (16/12/21 is the last day of school for students).
